My interest in student housing cooperatives started when one of the students I interviewed for my Creative University project told me that she was a co-founder of SEASALT, the Sussex and Brighton University Housing Cooperative. I then began talking to her fellow co-founders, current coop residents, the founders of the other existing coops, and people who are supporting the students. The more I learned, the more inspired I became by the students' courage, committment and perseverence to actively create an alternative to the broken UK student housing market - one that puts them in control of their own housing.
